Volunteerism

Volunteering is a powerful way to make a difference —not just for those you serve, but for yourself. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or new to the experience, giving your time can boost your physical and mental well-being. The benefits extend far beyond the moment, positively impacting your personal and professional life with energy and purpose.

How does volunteering improve personal well-being?

Volunteering improves personal well-being by:

  • Building social connections.
Social bonds are a cornerstone of mental health, and corporate volunteering is a powerful way to strengthen them. Volunteering initiatives encourage interaction across departments, breaking down silos and fostering unity and teamwork
  • Fostering purpose and alignment.
Volunteering can create a shared sense of purpose by connecting individual and corporate values and a collective commitment to supporting communities in need.
  • Reducing stress and enhancing resilience.
Volunteering can act as a counterbalance to workplace stress. Volunteering releases endorphins and reduces cortisol levels, fostering overall well-being.

How can I get involved?

During the month of November, all employees are encouraged to volunteer in your community for at least one hour. Here are four ways to get involved:

  • Volunteer together. Join team and site-based volunteer events with your colleagues.
  • Volunteer anywhere. Take part in flexible and virtual opportunities, wherever you are.
  • Volunteer your skills. Put your professional skills and expertise to work for a nonprofit or community.
  • Volunteer your way. Everyday service counts too, from helping your child’s school to supporting a neighbor. And when friends or family volunteer with you, their hours count too.

Explore volunteer opportunities on our Benevity website and join in! Also, throughout the year, be sure to log in Benevity any volunteer hours conducted during and outside of work.
